SLOVAK NATIONAL THEATER OPERA

Few days after my arrival I went to see G. Pucini's Tosca at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. Here I learned that the greatest Slovak Opera singer tenor Peter Dvorsky has returned recently after more than two and half years absence to the opera. Peter Dvorsky doesn't need to be introduced to Slovak Opera playgoer nor he needs to be introduced to the spectators in the world's most important opera theaters. Peter Dvorsky is returning to his home company, where he was a constant member since 1972. In this 1998/1999 season he will personify major characters in three large titles of Italian opera: In Puccini's Tosca he will play Cavardossi, in Mascagni's Peasan't honor Turrida and in Leoncavall's Comedians he will play Canio. In the roles of Turrida and Cania it will be Dvorský's theatrical debut. Ten years ago he sang Turrida's part for audiotape published by Opus.

Peter Dvorsky's artistic journey on large stages of opera world started in 1977, when on the stage of the Vienna State Opera debuted as a singer in Straus's Cavalier with the rose.

In 1979 he performed in J. Massenet's:Werther as Werther in Zurich, Swityerland; G. Puccini's: Bohema as Rudolfo in Milano's La Scala, Italy; G. Verdi's: La Traviata as Alfredo in Verona (Árena), Italy and in Hamburg, Germany. Ten years later in 1989 he performed in G. Verdi's: La Traviata as Alfredo in Tokyo, Japan; G. Verdi's: Mascarada ball as Riccardo in Huston, Texas, USA; G. Verdi's The power of destiny as Don Alvaro in Vienna, Austira State Opera; F. Ciela's Adriana Lecounvreur as Maurizio in Milano's La Scala, Italy: G. Pucini's Tosca as Cavardossi in Salzburg, Austria at the Salzburg festival.

I couldn't resist and week later I went to see Tosca again, this time with Peter Dvorsky singing the role of Cavardossi. I was able to remember the performance from week ago and compare it to the one with Peter Dvorsky. What a voice, what a performance what an excitement he created in the audience, just fantastic. You could feel and hear the difference in everybody on the stage when Peter Dvorsky sings. Everyone just tries much harder to put out 150 % instead the usual 100%. To me this was the most exiting opera performance so far in my life and I am sure to go to see and hear Peter Dvorsky again.
