MOSTÁR
BREZNO IS 45 YEARS OLD
Anniversary Gala performance will be held in Brezno
November 17 and 18, 2000
MOSTAR is an amateur folklore group associated with the hose of culture in
Brezno, Central Slovakia. It comprises of folk dance, folk singing and folk
musicians groups. In their repertoire they have songs, dances and instrumental
music parts from the Upper Hron river region of Slovakia from Cierny Balog,
Gemer, Mount Polana and Zemplin.
They regularly participate at Vychodna, Straznice, Detva and regional folk
festivals in Slovakia. Their participation abroad included Hungary, Germany,
Yugoslavia, Spain, Italy, Greece, Finland, Afghanistan, Syria, Jordan, Turkey
and France.
The group was established on July 15, 1955 as group of
songs and dances called HRON in Brezno. March 23, 1956 they had their first
performance in Cierny Balog. Later on they changed their name to MOSTAR as
many of the founding members did work for Mostáreň Brezno, a
bridge-manufacturing corporation.
The word MOSTAR includes forty-five years and several generations during which
the members of MOSTAR gave to the public what they love. The love for the
folklore of their ancestors, grandmother’s songs, expressing joy through
dance, but also sorrow that trembles fujara or violin string. That is the
reason why members of MOSTÁR with love and respect for their heritage dress
in beautiful folk-costumes, put on high boots or "krpce"and perform
dances, songs and play music of Upper Hron river region-one of the most
beautiful regions of Slovakia.
We wish them continued success and congratulate them on their 45th anniversary.
